MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH


Programme Overview

This programme seeks to produce specialist who has a strong foundation in the broad field of Public Health as well as adequate training and preparation to take up special functions as required in the speciality discipline of his or her own choice. The programme was started in 1973 and the first batch graduated in 1974.


The MPH graduate should have the following public health skills:

  • Technically competent in the board field of Public Health
  • Equipped with adequate specialized knowledge and skills in a particular discipline of Public Health
  • Able to exhibit proper leadership and managerial expertise
  • Able to function effectively and efficiently;
  • Able to perform the duties at local, district, state and national levels;
  • An advocate of Public Health and
  • Able to carry out research or studies and produce epidemiological reports.

  • Full-Time Duration: 2 Semesters + 1 Special Semester, (Research)

Entry Requirement

General Entry Requirements

For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or

For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
  • Graduate from University Malaya; or
  • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
  • Produce publications in related field; or
  • Receive a scholarship; or
  • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
  • Pass an interview by Faculty; or
  • Pass a Special evaluation by Faculty.

  • General University Requirements: Fulfill the General University Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree Qualification: Possessed a Bachelor's Degree as below -
    1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
    2. Bachelor of Dental Surgery
    3. Bachelor of Allied Health

  • Equivalent Qualification: N/A
  • Related Fields: Any fields related to Public Health.
  • Special Requirements:


    1. For Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline with a CGPA of at least 3.00 and at least one (1) year working experience in the relevant field after graduation.
    2. For Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline with a CGPA of 2.70 - 2.99 and at least one (1) year working experience in the relevant field after graduation AND fulfil at least one (1) criteria from the University's general requirements.
    3. For Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline with a CGPA of 2.50 - 2.69 and at least three (3) years working experience in the relevant field after graduation AND fulfil at least one (1)criteria from University's general requirements (for UM graduates) or two (2) criteria from University's general requirements (for non UM graduates), AND
    4. Passed Interview (in line with Public Health Medicine conjoint).
