MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INSTRUMENTAL ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY (COURSEWORK)


Programme Overview

The Master of Science in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry, formally known as Master of Science (Analytical Chemistry & Instrumental Analysis), is a coursework-based postgraduate programme offered by the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya. This academic programme has been accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), which is the world’s leading chemistry community and professional association. The accreditation is a mark of assurance that the programme is in line with international quality and standards to enhance graduate prospects and employment opportunities.


The aim of this programme is to cater to the growing needs of modern-day industry, which requires competent personnel who are knowledgeable in the handling of a sophisticated range of analytical instruments, as well as possessing the interpretative skills necessary to solve complex chemistry problems. The courses are based on modern instrumental analytical chemistry and designed to address the needs of testing laboratories and research organizations.

General Entry Requirements

For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or

For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
  • Graduate from University Malaya; or
  • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
  • Produce publications in related field; or
  • Receive a scholarship; or
  • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
  • Pass an interview by Faculty; or
  • Pass a Special evaluation by Faculty.
