MASTER OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT



Programme Overview

The Master of Project Management (MPM) is a cutting edge interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral programme, designed with inputs from the relevant industries, will significantly strengthen and develop existing project management professional’s expertise besides meeting the needs of new entrants or aspiring professionals.


This programme intends to produce knowledgeable and competent project management professionals who are ethically and socially responsible, and sensitive to the needs for promoting sustainability. Students are trained with the skills to handle problems, challenges and a project management perspective in a global context. 


Among others, disciplines stressed in this programme include Principles of Project Management, Project Management Professional Development, Project Investment and Financial Management, Organisational and Strategic Management, and also Value and Risk Management. 


The multi-disciplinary approach in the programme also allows exploration of other disciplines that are relevant to project management including Health and Safety Management, Information Technology Management for Projects, Legal Studies for Project Management as well as Assets and Facilities Management. 


The component that is given emphasis in this programme is research in selected areas specific to project management, so that students are trained to become effective analyzers and develop skills towards problem solving using scientific approach.

Entry Requirement

General Entry Requirements
  • For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
    • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or
  • For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following): 
    • Graduate from Universiti Malaya; or
    • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
    • Produce publications in related field; or
    • Receive a scholarship; or
    • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
    • Pass an interview conducted by the Faculty; or
    • Pass a special evaluation by the Faculty

  • Special Requirements: 
    1. Graduates from the Universiti Malaya (UM) with a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Non-Science, or other related fields may be considered if they meet the following criteria:
      1. Candidates with a CGPA of 3.00 and above – Must have at least one (1) year of work experience involving projects in a relevant field after the completion of their Bachelor's Degree; or
      2. Candidates with a CGPA of 2.70 – 2.99 – Must have at least two (2) years of work experience involving projects in a relevant field after the completion of their Bachelor's Degree; or
      3. Candidates with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.69 – Must have at least three (3) years of work experience involving projects in a relevant field after the completion of their Bachelor's Degree, and meet at least one (1) of the following additional criteria:


    OR


    1. Graduates from institutions other than UM with a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Non-Science, or other related fields may be considered if they meet the following criteria:
      1. Candidates with a CGPA of 3.00 and above – Must have at least one (1) year of work experience involving projects in a relevant field after the completion of their Bachelor's Degree; or
      2. Candidates with a CGPA of 2.70 – 2.99 – Must have at least two (2) years of work experience involving projects in a relevant field after the completion of their Bachelor's Degree; or
      3. Candidates with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.69 – Must have at least three (3) years of work experience involving projects in a relevant field after the completion of their Bachelor's Degree, and meet at least one (1) of the following additional criteria:
        1. Have produced at least one (1) publication in a peer-reviewed journal in a relevant field; or
        2. Are recipients of a scholarship.
