Programme Overview
Pathology is a large and diverse field that allows a doctor to participate in multiple areas of the field or focus their scope to a specific area. It is a specialty that focuses on diagnostic work involving tissues, blood and body effluents The Master of Pathology program offered by UM covers comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge to equip graduates with the necessary proficiency to become clinicians who are involved in diagnostic laboratory work and for the field of Forensic Pathology, the involvement with investigations into causes of death and medico legal work. .
Full-Time Duration: 8 Semesters, (Clinical)

Stage 1 (First Year):
Clinical Training Through Rotational Postings in Four Disciplines:
Anatomical Pathology (including Autopsy)
Hematology (Including Transfusion Medicine)
Chemical Pathology (including Immunology)
Medical Microbiology (Bacterial, Mycology, Immunology, Virology) with Parasitology
Log Book Tasks: Documenting Tasks and Postings Reports
Stage 2 (Three Years):
Advanced Training in One of the following:
Anatomical Pathology
Hematology
Chemical Pathology
Medical Microbiology
Forensic Pathology
Research Project
Additional Requirement: Part 1 Examination:
Required to Proceed to Stage II

Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or
For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
Graduate from University Malaya; or
Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
Produce publications in related field; or
Receive a scholarship; or
Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
Pass an interview by Faculty; or
Pass a Special evaluation by Faculty.
Specific Entry Requirements
General University Requirements: Fulfill the General University Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Qualification: Possessed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate.
Equivalent Qualification: N/A
Related Fields: N/A.
Special Requirements:
At least one year of post-full registration clinical experience approved by the Senate.
Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia; and
Passed the entrance evaluation.
AND
The non-Malaysian citizen applicant who obtains a degree from a university or institution of higher learning that did not use English as the medium of instruction for the degree, shall be required to meet the specified requirements.
