Programme Overview

Otorhinolaryngology is the branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, as well as head and neck disorders. A more commonly used term for this specialty is ENT (ear, nose and throat). Graduates in this discipline are exposed to the technical theories as well as the practical knowledge relevant to the discipline via the comprehensive syllabus and rotational postings in Oral-Maxilla-facial Surgery, Neuron-surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as undertaking a research project in the field of Otorhinolaryngology.

Stage 1:

  1. Basic Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology Training.
  2. Planning and Commencement of Research Project (s).

Basic Otorhinolaryngology
  1. 18 Months for Foreign Candidates and Malaysian without 6 months of Prior Surgical Posting.
  2. 12 Months for Malaysians with 6 Months of Prior Surgical Posting.
  3. Log Book Maintenance:

    Documenting Surgical Procedures


Stage 2:
Duration:
  1. 30 Months for foreign candidates and Malaysians without 6 months of prior surgical posting.
  2. 36 Months for Malaysians with 6 Months of Prior Surgical Posting.

Advanced Otorhinolaryngology:
Rotational Postings:
  1. Oral and Maxilla-Facial Surgery.
  2. Neuro-Surgery.
  3. Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery.
  4. Research Project in Otorhinolaryngology.

Log Book Maintenance:
  1. Documentation Surgical Procedures.

Additional Requirements:
  • Part I Examiniation:

Entry Requirement

General Entry Requirements

For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or

For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
  • Graduate from University Malaya; or
  • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
  • Produce publications in related field; or
  • Receive a scholarship; or
  • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
  • Pass an interview by Faculty; or
  • Pass a Special evaluation by Faculty.

Specific Entry Requirements
  1. General University Requirements: Fulfill the General University Requirements
  2. Bachelor's Degree Qualification: Possessed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate.
  3. Equivalent Qualification: N/A
  4. Related Fields: N/A.
  5. Special Requirements:


    1. At least one year of post-full registration clinical experience approved by the Malaysia Medical Council. (Priority to candidates who has completed six (6) months in General Surgery as a Medical Officer after the internship training in any government hospitals.)
    2. Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia; and
    3. Passed the prescribed entrance evaluation.


    AND


    The non-Malaysian citizen applicant who obtains a degree from a university or institution of higher learning that did not use English as the medium of instruction for the degree, shall be required to meet the specified requirements.
