MASTER MALAY STUDIES



Programme Overview

The Master of Malay Studies programme requires candidates to conduct research that should culminate in a dissertation of no more than 60,000 words under the supervision of faculty staff.


The language of instruction for the dissertation is either Malay or English.


Candidates may choose to specialize their studies from the following departments:


  1. Department of Malay Language
  2. Department of Malay Linguistics
  3. Department of Malay Literature, 
  4. Department of Malay Socio-Culture/Arts


Full-Time Duration: 4 Semesters (Research)

General Entry Requirements
  • For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
    • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or
  • For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following): 
    • Graduate from Universiti Malaya; or
    • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
    • Produce publications in related field; or
    • Receive a scholarship; or
    • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
    • Pass an interview conducted by the Faculty; or
    • Pass a special evaluation by the Faculty
