This program will produce graduates who are dynamic, reflective and innovative and able to apply their pedagogical knowledge, educational theories and research to solve problems relevant to the field of education.

Entry Requirement

General Entry Requirements

For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or

For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
  • Graduate from University Malaya; or
  • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
  • Produce publications in related field; or
  • Receive a scholarship; or
  • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
  • Pass an interview conducted by Faculty; or
  • Pass a Special evaluation by Faculty.

  • General University Requirements: Fulfill the General University Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Qualification: Possessed a Bachelor's Degree of Education in English as a Second Language Education or a Bachelor's Degree with English Education
  • Master's Degree Qualification: N/A
  • Equivalent Qualification: N/A
  • Related Fields: English, English Literature, excluding Bachelor's Degree related to communication, translation etc.
  • Special Requirements:


    • Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in a related field (English, English Literature, excluding bachelor's degrees related to communication, translation, etc.) (CGPA: ≥ 3.00)

      Must fulfill at least ONE of the following criteria:

      • Possessed a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Minimum CGPA 3.00); or
      • Teaching Qualification recognized by the University; or
      • At least one (1) year of work experience in a related field; or
      • Professional qualification in English teaching from a recognized professional body; or
      • Other qualifications approved by the Senate from time to time; or


      OR

    • Applicants with a Bachelor of Education in English as a Second Language or Bachelor's Degree with English Education (TESL)(CGPA: 2.70 - 2.99)

      Must fulfill at least ONE of the following criteria:

      • UM graduate; or
      • At least two (2) years teaching experience in a related field; or
      • Professional qualification from a recognized professional body; or
      • Published in a related field; or
      • A Scholarship holder; or
      • A Government servant; or
      • Pass an interview by PTj; or
      • Pass a Special Assessment PTj; or


      OR

    • Applicants with a Bachelor of Education in English as Second Language or Bachelor's degree with English Education (TESL) (CGPA: 2.50 - 2.69)At least three (3) years teaching experience in a related field*; AND

      Must fulfill at least TWO of the following criteria:

      • UM graduate; or
      • At least Three (3) years teaching experience in a related field; or
      • Professional qualification in English teaching from a recognized professional body; or
      • Published in a related field; or
      • A Scholarship holder; or
      • A Government servant; or
      • Pass an interview by PTj; or
      • Pass a Special Assessment PTj; or
