Programme Overview

The Master of Arts (English Literature) programme is aimed at providing quality and in-depth postgraduate education in the field of literary studies. 


Courses offered in the MA programme by Coursework and Dissertation are comprehensive and range from Medieval Literature through to Cultural Studies. 


On the whole, the MA programme is designed not only to promote a love for English Literature and Language but also to enhance and increase the scope of research undertaken by staff and students.  


Besides the MA by Coursework and Dissertation, candidates can opt to pursue the degree purely by research.

General Entry Requirements
  • For applicants with a CGPA of not less than 3.00:
    • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or
  • For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following): 
    • Graduate from Universiti Malaya; or
    • Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
    • Produce publications in related field; or
    • Receive a scholarship; or
    • Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
    • Pass an interview conducted by the Faculty; or
    • Pass a special evaluation by the Faculty

  • General University Requirements: Fulfill the General University Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree Qualification: Possessed a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature; or 
    Bachelor's Degree in related field to Arts with minimum ONE (1) year working experience in related field to usage of English Languages or Linguistics.
