The PhD program is a full research program leading to the submission of a thesis based on individually supervised research. All thesis must be approved and supervised by the Faculty.

University Professor, Legal Researcher, Senior Legal Consultant, Policy Advisor, Judicial Officer, Chief Legal Officer.
Possess a Master's Degree by Coursework or Mixed Mode with a CGPA of no less than 3.00; or.
For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
Graduate from University Malaya; or
Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
Produce publications in related field; or
Receive a scholarship; or
Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
Pass an interview by PTj; or
Pass a Special Assessment by PTj.
Possess a Bachelor's Degree through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Access (APEL.A) and other qualifications approved by the Senate.

Special Requirements: For applications for admission to the Doctoral program by Research through prior or retrospective publications, the following are required:
Applicants must meet the admission requirements set by the University for the Doctoral program and MUST have publications that contribute to contribute to scholarly knowledge in the relevant field
Additional admission requirements:
University teachers at the time of their application for admission as applicants must have had not less than three (3) years of service as teachers and be active in the University service; OR
Applicants must have publications that contribute to scholarly knowledge in the relevant field and have been recognized among academics or others in their field of expertise and certified by the Application Evaluation Committee.
Candidates must NOT have any Doctoral Degree qualifications by research from the University or other universities.
