Programme Overview

The Universiti Malaya (UM) Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is focuses on developing professionals with higher critical thinking skills in the field of business and capable of conducting cutting edge research. DBA programme is a coursework-based doctorate degree programme. This degree programme is designed to meet the needs of high-achieving business professionals who wish to advance their careers and are aspired to climb up the management ladder either in the public or private sectors. The three (3) years doctoral programme aims to support the professionals in developing a rigorous thinking process, acquire deeper management knowledge and advanced research methodologies, and promote analytical skills that enable them to solve complex organisational problems with worldwide perpective. Through integration of theory and practice curriculum, candidates could associate the practical value of learning theoretical concepts more closely. By enrolling in this comprehensive programme, candidates are offered an opportunity to develop close industry linkages and work with world-class academics who are actively engaged with the corporate, government and NGO sectors; and published in high impact business journals. The pedagogies are to optimise the efficiency of the learning process. Each candidate is required to complete a minimum of 81 credit hours of learning and research activities. On average, candidates would require three (3) years of study.

  • Possess a Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in related field as below with minimum CGPA of 3.00;
    • Must be in the related field: Business Management, Marketing, Finance, Logistic, Statistic, Information System, Psychology, Economics, Accounting, Operation.

  • Possess a Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree not in related field as below with minimum CGPA of 3.00; 
    • Meet at least one (1) of the following criteria:
      1. Publication in a related field; or
      2. A scholarship holder; or
      3. UM graduate; or
      4. A Government servant; or
      5. Graduated from top 100 university in the current QS World University Ranking

or


  • Possess a Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in related field with CGPA of 2.50 - 2.99; 
    • Meet at least one (1) of the following criteria:
      1. Publication in a related field; or

      3. UM graduate; or

    • Bachelor’s Degree Qualification: Possess a Bachelor's Degree with a CGPA of no less than 3.00 out of 4.00 or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university, as accepted by the Senate.
    • Master’s Degree Qualification: Possess a Master's Degree in a relevant field with a CGPA of no less than 3.00 out of 4.00 or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university, as accepted by the Senate.

      1. A full-time working experience of not less than five (5) years in management level;
