Programme Overview

The Advanced Diploma in Midwifery Nursing at the University of Malaya (UM), specifically through the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), is a one-year, full-time specialized program (3 semesters) for registered nurses. It prepares nurses for certification as Midwives by the Malaysian Midwifery Board, focusing on antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.

Entry Requirement

Student admission requirements are as follows:

Admission requirements for the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery Nursing program are as follows:


All applicants must fulfill the general and specific requirements set by the Advanced Diploma in Nursing Program, University Malaya, and the Malaysian Nursing Board.


Pass the Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, SPM) / equivalent, with a Credit in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia, and a Pass in History for SPM 2013 onwards.


and


Possess Diploma/Bachelor in Nursing from a recognized institution by MQA;


and


Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board;


and


Possess current practicing certificate/Retention of Name (RON) for nurses from the Malaysian Nursing Board before clinical placement;


and


Possess a minimum twenty-four (24) months of clinical work experience;


and


Possess a certificate of 20 hours Lactation Management Course before registering in the program;


and


Certified by a Registered Medical Practitioner from the University Student Health Clinic / Government Hospital / University Malaya Medical Centre / Private Medical Centre that the individual has a healthy body and does not have any health problems as follows:


(i)    serious physical and mental illnesses;

(ii)    serious infectious diseases; or

(iii)    physical disabilities or sensory impairments that hinder the practice of nursing care.


Basic qualification requirements include MUET Band

The entry requirements for non-citizen students for the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery Nursing program are as follows:


All candidates who apply must meet the general and special requirements set by the Advanced Diploma in Nursing Program, Universiti Malaya and the Malaysian Nursing Board.


Passed the General Certificate of Education (GCE) ‘O’ Level or equivalent or other qualifications recognized by the Senate;


and


Hold a nursing diploma / degree from an institution recognized by the accreditation body of the country of origin;


and


Registered with the Nursing Council of the country of origin;


and


Possess current temporary practicing certificate (TPC) from Malaysia Nursing Board before clinical placement;


and


Minimum twenty four (24) months clinical working experience;


and


Attain proficiency in English language with any one (1) of the following examinations results;


MUET with minimum of band 3 as an application requirement,


or


A pass in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 5.5;


or


Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); TOEFL Paper Based Test (TOEFL PBT) a minimum score of 453;


or


TOEFL Computer Based Test (TOEFL CBT) a minimum score of 133;


or


TOEFL Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) a minimum score of 46;


or


TOEFL Essentials (online) 8;


or


Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic /PTE Online) a minimum score of 51;

Cambridge English Qualifications and Test A2 Key (KET) a minimum score of 160;

Cambridge English Qualifications and Test B1 Preliminary (PET) a minimum score of 160;
